  • Worked with multiple industry clients and industry associations (including Forest Products Association, Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance, Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, Mining Association of Canada) over 30 years including pulp and paper (Irving, Weyerhaeuser, Domtar), uranium mining (Cameco), base metal mining (INCO), and oil sands (Suncor, Syncrude, Shell, Total, CNRL, Imperial) to advance environmental performance improvement using novel research and monitoring approaches and technology development.
  • Led research and monitoring programs at regional, national and international scales including integrated watershed management, global water sustainability, ecohydrology, cumulative effects assessment, air quality risk assessment, and pipeline spills effects assessment.
  • Led and managed fundamental and applied research programs including in areas related to mesocosm (artificial stream) development, small fish, invertebrate and multi-trophic models for toxicity assessment of complex mixtures, effluent treatment technology, selenium toxicity, and decision support software systems.
  • Led and collaborated on multiple publication series related to cumulative effects assessment, oil sands environmental assessment, and review of the composition and toxicity of oil sands process waters.
  • Led and conducted field research and monitoring in remote areas of wilderness including northern ecosystems and cold climates, mountain regions, in most provinces and territories in Canada, and at industry facilities and sites.
  • Member, Science Advisory Panels and Round Tables including over 15 years on the United States National Council for Air and Stream Improvement long-term receiving environment study.
